Craps glossary
Advantage – refers to the house edge or the odds of the casino winning Any Craps – this bets that the next roll will produce any of the craps numbers which are 2, 3 and 12, made from any combination of the dice Any Seven – this bets that the next roll will total 7, using any possible dice combination Back Line Bet – another name for the Don’t Pass Line Bet Big Eight – this bets that an 8 will be rolled before a 7 Big Six – bets that a 6 will be rolled before a 7 Big Red – single roll bet stating the next roll will be a 7 Bones – another term for the dice Boxcars – a pair of sixes Box Man – a term referring to the person responsible for the chips on the craps table, seated between the two craps dealers. Box Numbers – also known as place or point numbers Buy Bet – To get the correct odds on the bet, the bettor can opt to pay a 5% commission Come Bet – made after the Come Out roll, this bet initially needs to have a 7 or 11 to win, and will lose if a 3, 11 or 12 are rolled. Any other number establishes the point that this bet marks, and the Come Bet moves to this point. If the point is rolled, it will win. If a 7 is rolled, it will now lose. Come Out Roll – the initial dice roll in any betting round. It determines the outcome of the Pass Line and Don’t Pass bets, and establishes the point. Craps– the roll of the Craps Numbers on the Come Out Roll Craps Numbers – these are 2, 3 and 12 Don’t Come bet – this bet is made after the Come Out Roll. It initially needs a 2 or 3 to win, a 12 to draw, or a 7 or 11 to lose. It is the opposite f the Come Bet. If a point in established, then it bets that the point will be rolled before a 7. The point number will make this bet lose. Don’t Pass Bet – this is the opposite of the Pass Line Bet. This bet is made on the Come Out Roll, and needs a 2 or 3 to be rolled to win. If a 12 is rolled it will draw, and if a 7 or 11 are rolled it will lose. Any other number establishes a point; if the point number is rolled, the bet will lose. It needs a 7 to win once the point number is established. Don’t Pass Bar – the marked section on the craps table where you put place your Don’t Pass Bet Edge – the advantage held by the casino over the bettor during each wager Field Numbers - 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 Field bet – a single roll bet which bets that the next roll will be 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 Front Line Bet – another name for the Pass Line Bet Hardway bet – single roll wager on any double adding up to 4, 6, 8, or 10 Hi-Lo Bet – a single roll bet that the next roll of the dice will either be 2 or 11 Horn bet – a bet in multiples of 4 units, with a unit on each number; 2, 3, 11 and 12 Horn Numbers – 2, 3, 11 and 12 Inside Bet – placed on the inside numbers to be rolled next Inside Numbers – 5, 6, 8 and 9 Insurance – bets made simultaneously to cover the potential losses of each other Lay bet – a multiple roll bet wagering that a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will be rolled before a 7 Line Bet – this can be either the Pass Line bet or Don’t Pass Line Bet Marker Puck – the puck that marks the point on the craps table after the Come Out Roll, in the form of a disc that says On and Off on opposite sides Midnight – a single roll bet on the number 12 only Miss – Craps or a 7 rolled on the Come Out Roll preventing a point from being established Multiple roll bet – a bet which may take several rolls of the dice for the outcome to be determined Natural – the name given to the roll of a 7 or 11 on the Come Out Roll Odds bet – an additional bet made with a bet where the house has an advantage, making the payout at true odds One Roll Bet – another name for Single Roll Bet Pass – when a point or a natural is thrown during the Come Out Roll Pass Line Bet – this is made on the Come Out Roll. If a 7 or 11 is rolled the bets wins, if a 3, 11 or 12 are rolled the bet loses. Any other number establishes the point; when this point is rolled, it will win. If a 7 is rolled, it will now lose. Payoff – the amount won by the bettor if the bet wins Place Bet – a multiple roll bet which wagers that a place number will be rolled before a 7 Place Numbers - the place numbers are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 and are the number used to establish a point Point Number – the number established on the Come Out Roll if the bet is not won or lost immediately. The point is one of the place numbers. The point number determines the outcome of the Come, Don’t Come, pass Line and Don’t Pass bets. Proposition Bets – any single roll bet and the Hardway bet comes under this umbrella term, placed in the centre of the table by the dealer in live casinos Rail – where the craps players store their chips around the table Random Number Generator – the software used by online casinos which generates the numbers on the dice randomly to ensure fair gaming Sequence bet – another term for a multiple roll bet Shooter – the person that rolls the dice; the responsibility moves in a clockwise direction around the table after a betting round is completed Single roll bet – a bet which relies on the outcome of the next roll Snake Eyes – the term given to the roll of a double 1 Square pair – a pair of fours Three Way craps – a bet comprising of multiples of 3 units, with one unit on each of the craps numbers Whirl Bet – single roll bet on the numbers 2, 3, 7, 11,or 12 Vigorish – the commission taken by the casino |
