Strategies: When to Make Hits and When to Stand

Stands

It is advisable to make a stand on a hard 13 through a 16 when the case is that the dealer’s card is showing a 6 or lower.

Hits

If the dealer happens to be showing a card that is a 7 through an Ace, you should make your hit.

• When the dealer reveals a card which is a 2 or a 3, or 7 and higher, it would be good to make a hit on a hard 12.
• Continue to make hits until you have acquired at least 17 points especially if the dealer is using a 10 as an up.
• Similarly, make a hit on a soft 17 if the dealer has a 10 as an up card.
• If you have 8 or less then go for a hit
• You can also make a hit on a 9, but ensure that the dealer does not have a 9 or a 3 through 6 before you do.
• Hitting on a 10 is also possible unless the dealer has a 2 through 9.

Some more Blackjack Tips

When your first two cards are 1 or less it is advisable that you take another card.

If you are holding cards that are between 17 to 20 it is better if you stop drawing unless of course you have a soft 16 or 17. In this case you can make a draw of another card if the dealer is holding a card from 9 to an ace.

Do not make a draw of another card if the dealer shows you a card from 2 to 6. However if you are in possession of a hand that is equal to 12 and the dealer is showing either a 2 or 3 card then you may draw another card but it is better if you stop at this.

Be extremely careful if your hand is anywhere between a total of 12 to 16. This is a win or lose situation and you must make your next move with caution based on what cards the dealer is showing you.

A smart blackjack player assumes that the dealer always has a 10 hidden no matter what card is shown to them.
When you see that the dealer has a card that is between 7 to an ace then to be on the safer side draw cards until the total of your hand reaches over 16.
